50 Shades of Grey
Monday, September 17, 2012
I was out kayaking with my friend Nancy last week. She is a good enough friend that she is willing to meet me at 6:30 - a.m.- to go kayaking and catch the sunrise. Some of our most magic moments have been as the sun spills over the horizon's rim, creating rose and gold mist. Of course, the thing about getting up is we can't guarantee the sunrise will be brilliant. Even at Hay Lake, sometimes the morning is cloudy, or foggy, or just plain dull. It turns out though, that these muted mornings have a beauty of their own. There is a subtle colouring that adds mystery. Shorelines are shrouded, blending and blurring near and far. Plants, curiously, are more vibrant. These gentle mornings show a surprising variation - there surely are at least 50 shades of grey. (Oh- and what were you expecting?)
