It's Coming

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

This has been a spring to learn patience. I love winter, I really do, but the continuing snow and ice have made it difficult to believe Hay Lake Lodge and Cottages opens in less than a month (I know, how is that possible??). Sunday I decided "Enough!" I took my camera and went looking for Signs of Spring. Read more

One Last Paddle...

Monday, November 17, 2014

It was probably half-way through the ice-sheet I thought perhaps I had pushed the kayaking a little too far….But let me explain. I like to paddle Hay Lake until freeze-up. Our bay is still open, though the narrows are now iced in. My friend Vicki lives across the lake, boat access only, so I thought I’d paddle over with a book. She’ll be at her place till the ice is strong enough to cross on foot – which will be around Christmas! Read more

"The Worst We Ever Saw"

Thursday, September 11, 2014

That's what the Bell crew told us this afternoon. The thunderstorms that ripped across Ontario last Friday hit here with beautiful awe-inspiring lightning displays, rolling bass thunder - and a lightning strike that hit our power transformer, plunging half of our cottages and the rest of Hay Lake into darkness. We also lost our phone service. Read more

Our Geocache - Improved!

Monday, August 25, 2014

Something had to be done. A geocache can be hidden underwater, or almost anywhere - but one on top of a hill, well above ground, shouldn't be permanently soaked. Or should have things in it besides water. But our memorial Geocache has been fixed, upgraded, enhanced. Algonquin Spring

Monday, May 12, 2014

Am I a delinquent mother if I say the best part of today's Mother's Day was my solo kayak? For the first time I can remember, my white trilliums did not bloom in time for Mother's Day, so I went looking for spring. The faithful trout lilies were in the yard and all through the bush, but what would I find on my paddle? Read more

Privacy with a "Social" Touch

Saturday, March 08, 2014

Did you use your mobile today? I imagine so - my brother used his to take this shot when we were out last fall on Hay Lake. Pictures on your cell - and when you take them, do you share them? Post them on Facebook? Read more

The Real Deal

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

I had the nicest note from a long time guest the other day. Matt Kerns has been here often. At one time his mother's family had a cottage nearby. His son is trying to arrange a trip later this summer. Read more

We're in the Family Business

Monday, January 20, 2014

January, and it's time to focus on Hay Lake Lodge and Cottages. Because we are a seasonal operation, we have the luxury of being able to put the Lodge on hold over the holidays, and concentrate on enjoying family. But now it's half way into January and time to think "Lodge" - for part of each day at least! Read more
