Turning towards spring

Sunday, February 19, 2012
"If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking" It's an old Buddhist saying.  Except right now it would be "keep on snowshoeing...".  Actually, we are headed to spring.  Yes, there is still plenty of snow, and I see snowmobiles racing down the lake. But the light stays bright longer, and we have had many of those February skies that can actually tan whatever skin is exposed.  I used to ski down the lake, find a protected spot, spread my vest as a blanket and lie out in the sun!  It felt that good to have the sun on my face - and since it was February, it was only my face! Our winter has had so many ups and downs in temperature, the lake hasn't been much good for skiing, so I've been out snowshoeing.  It is always such a thrill to come back to your trail and find a moose has been following it.  The holes he punches in with his legs and hooves go so deep you have to be careful how you step, but it is exciting to think you might catch up - I keep hoping I will see this - just ahead... And as I said, we are turning towards spring.  New rate sheets are ready, people are calling to book, JoAnne, Chantelle, Colleen and Della are all coming back for another season - Opening Day is only 12 weeks away!
