Here is one of my first menu plans. In 1982 every breakfast had juice or fruit, hot cereal, cold cereal, meat, and a hot dish - pancakes, french toast, eggs or omelettes. You could be served from 7:30 till 9:30, if I remember correctly. I chose the hot dish each day, because I didn't know enough kitchen skills then to give you a choice. I remember the first time I offered french toast one morning, and a guest asked for scrambled eggs instead - not good! In the fall we had deer hunters, and then breakfast was served at 5:00 a.m.But times change and so do people's eating habits. Guests started telling us the food was too much, too heavy. We added kitchens to the cabins, gave people the choice of making their own meals, and finally closed the dining room 6 years ago. But people still need breakfast! These days, we are happy to bring it to you. In fact, I'm proud to say our complimentary breakfast gets lots of compliments. We bake our own muffins - "from scratch" - and bring you fresh-baked croissants, juice, fruit, yogurt, coffee and eggs so that you can sit on your porch, sip your coffee and enjoy the morning mist on the lake. Not a bad way to start the day!

What's For Breakfast?

"Back in the Day", when we started here 30 years ago(!)Hay Lake Lodge and Cottages was an American Plan lodge. That means we prepared Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for our guests and served them in the Main Lodge/Dining Room. Not sure why it was called "American Plan" - maybe because we Americans like to eat - but that was the way since Gordon and Clover started the Lodge in 1954.
